Celtic have tied down youngster Adam Montgomery on a new long-term contract, it was confirmed by the club today.

The 18-year-old has agreed to a four-year deal that will keep him at Celtic Park until 2025.

Montgomery has been training with the Celtic first-team at Lennoxtown this season and is now on the brink of making his senior debut.

John Kennedy named him in today’s match squad against Aberdeen, but the teenager was an unused substitute.

The forward has come through the club’s own academy and signed his first professional contract back in July 2019.

Opportunities could come his way over the next couple of months with no pressure on Premiership matches and fresh ideas needed in the team.

Kennedy will know these young players better than anyone at the club and, with a couple of youngsters’ appearance on the bench today, has already shown a willingness to include them in the senior set-up.

Too many talents have been leaving for other clubs in recent years, whether it’s Manchester City, Liverpool or Bayern Munich.

Thankfully, in this case, we will get a chance to determine whether or not Montgomery can make it at the club.

The news has been greeted warmly by supporters too, with these fans taking to social media to share their thoughts on the announcement…

In other news, at last some honesty from Celtic after an underwhelming performance.
