Liel Abada’s Celtic role amid the latest transfer news on Nicolas Kuhn

Celtic might be bringing in another winger this January in the form of Nicolas Kuhn, but the possible new capture from Rapid Wien will have to do a lot to dethrone what is already in front of him.

Yes, summer signing Luis Palma and the ever-reliable Daizen Maeda have been the regular starters out wide this season.

But Mark Wilson is in no doubt that, with Liel Abada back on the pitch, he goes ‘right to the top of the pecking order’ of wingers Brendan Rodgers can pick from, as he told Clyde 1.

The 22-year-old returned from injury during Celtic’s 2-1 win over Rangers and received the loudest cheer of the afternoon from supporters.

On paper, many Celtic fans would agree that Liel Abada is the most talented of Rodgers’ wide players and the one with the most goal threat.

But with injuries and bench players not performing, there have been inconsistencies on the flanks this term, even if the depth has been there.

And now Mark Wilson feels there is only one star man who will take that throne out wide, even if Nicolas Kuhn enters the building.

Liel Abada’s return

“I would suggest with Abada coming back to full fitness,” said Wilson

“He would go right to the top of the pecking order. Maeda off the other side, then Luis Palma filling in those roles.”

Celtic’s January transfer window

Interestingly, Rodgers has decided to target the wide players as his first purchase of this January transfer window.

You could argue that a defensive brain in midfield, to help out Callum McGregor and allow him to push forward, would be a target.

Either way, that’s something the club should look at because it would elevate the team as a whole.

Then there are the centre-back areas. Everyone would agree, it’s Cameron Carter-Vickers and the surprise package of the season, Liam Scales, as the starters.

But Gustaf Lagerbielke seems to be on his way out already, whilst you are unsure if Rodgers is all that confident on Maik Nawrocki either.
