Celtic set for headline Sunday role; why Sky Sports rarity is happening this weekend

You may have noticed the unusual kick-off time for Celtic’s Premiership fixture against Dundee United this weekend.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side are at Tannadice to take on Liam Fox’s improving side with the match set for a 4pm kick-off.

The game is live on Sky Sports, but it isn’t the broadcasters only Premiership match of the weekend.

Prior to our game, they will also show Livingston’s home clash against Hearts, with the match in West Lothian starting at 1:30pm.

Given that we’ve had examples of Sky not showing a single Scottish match in a weekend it is refreshing to see two games being broadcast to big audiences.

The reason for the double helping of Premiership action is simply that Sky have no English Premier League football this weekend.

Down south, they’re into the fourth round of the FA Cup. Sky have no rights for the competition, so they’re calling upon Scottish football to fill the schedule.

There was actually a similar arrangement earlier this month when they showed Motherwell vs Hibernian and Dundee United vs Rangers consecutively, also on an FA Cup weekend.

But a Scottish ‘Super Sunday’ akin to the English version we’re all used to, is a real rarity.

So Celtic are the headline act with the game unlikely to finish until about 6pm.

For supporters, a late afternoon kick-off will be more favourable than the traditional noon slot.

Bring it on is what we say.
