The Celtic support will receive a much-improved allocation for this season’s trip to Madrid.
The Hoops are making a habit of visiting the Spanish capital in November. Last season, we faced 14-time UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid in their backyard, going down to an unforgiving 5-1 defeat.
This year, it’s their cross-city rivals Atletico who we face. Diego Simeone’s side are due in Glasgow on Wednesday 25 October before we visit Cívitas Metropolitano on Tuesday 7 November.
The Celtic allocation for that latter clash is still to be officially announced by the club. However, SLO John Paul Taylor recently revealed that we would be getting 3,600 tickets. (@CelticFCSLO on Twitter)
That number is almost double the 1,848 allocation we received for our trip to the Santiago Bernabéu last year. Madrid’s iconic ground was undergoing renovation work at that stage and our official following was restricted as a result.
Regardless, around 7,000 to 10,000 ended up travelling to Madrid (Daily Record) with many either getting tickets for the home end or watching in pubs in the city centre.

Our support this year is unlikely to be quite as large but it still seems probable that the 3,600 allocation won’t be enough to satisfy demand. Celtic supporters may again find themselves looking at home sections in order to guarantee a seat for the big match.
At least, this time, more will be accommodated in the official away sections. Hopefully, they can spur the team to a better result.
