Report: Celtic set to miss out on John Park
Celtic look like suffering a blow with the news that John Park won’t be returning to the club. The Daily Mail are reporting that scout Park was Neil Lennon’s choice to replace Lee Congerton if he got the job on a full-time basis.
However, Park now looks certain to take the director of football role at Sunderland instead.
The Hoops are searching for a new head of recruitment after Congerton followed Brendan Rodgers to Leicester.
Park had been at Celtic previously between 2007 and 2016. He helped find the likes of Victor Wanyama and Virgil Van Dijk who the club then sold for millions.
What next for Celtic?
It goes without saying that Celtic need to find a head of recruitment, and fast. We’ve got one of the biggest summers in recent memory ahead of us and good recruitment is a priority.
It may make perfect sense to appoint a manager and a head of recruitment at the same time. Giving the new boss a chance to cherry-pick the man he works with is an ideal opportunity.
Managers like to work with people they know and trust so it could work as a real incentive for a new boss to take the job. It would also likely help Celtic to have two people who are well in tune with each other.
