Celtic want €40million for Kristoffer Ajer amid interest from AC Milan, according to a report from calciomercato.com.

The Italian outlet say the Serie A giants could look to replace likely departure Mateo Musaccchio with the Hoops defender this summer.

They also mention the quotes from Ajer’s agent this week, saying: “The agent Tore Pedersen has confirmed that Ajer will not respect the contract with the Scots until 2022 and that the figure requested by Celtic is about €40million.”

Ajer has a way to go before potential Milan move

We don’t quite know where to start with this one.

Milan has been mentioned as a potential destination for Ajer in the past, but nothing has ever amounted to a serious bid.

And it’s pretty hard to imagine that we’d get anywhere near the £36million that’s being mentioned for him – especially as our current record fee received is only £25million for Kieran Tierney. (BBC)

Ajer is contracted until 2022, so this summer may be the one of the last chances for us to get a hefty price for him, if he’s unlikely to sign a new deal.

The Norwegian is still just 21-years-old and has over 100 games under his belt for us already.

He’s put in a lot of stand-out performances but has also shown his immaturity on some occasions – especially in Europe.

He is lagging behind Christopher Jullien in terms of defensive prowess while the Frenchman also netted more goals – 7 in comparison to Ajer’s four.

If we could get anything close to £20million many Celtic fans would be keen to part with the Scandinavian and reinvest in a replacement.

Mark this report under intriguing, but nothing more.
