Neil Lennon’s Celtic will find out their first Betfred Cup opponents of the season later today, as the knockout rounds of the tournament take shape.

The group stage, featuring the non-European Scottish Premiership sides as well as lower league teams, has almost concluded and the draw for the last 16 is due to commence this evening.

It will be broadcast live on Premier Sports after the match between Hibernian and Dundee at Easter Road, which kicks off at 16:30. Expect the draw around 18:30.

Celtic are seeded for the process and will avoid tough matches against teams such as Rangers or Aberdeen.

The list of potential opponents is currently: Alloa Athletic, Arbroath, Ayr United, Falkirk, St Johnstone & St Mirren.

The seeding placement of Hibernian, Dundee and Ross County has yet to be determined, but two of those will also be potential foes.

Celtic have won the Scottish League Cup four times in a row and our quest for a fifth is just around the corner.

Matches will take place on the weekend of 28th and 29th November, between Celtic’s fixtures away to Sparta Prague and AC Milan.

Eleven games will then be on the books for Celtic between now and the turn of the year, with no international break windows serving as a distraction.

That gauntlet is the lead-in to a huge derby away to Rangers on 2nd January.

To say it’s a season-defining period for Lennon and his Bhoys is an understatement.

We’ll bring you all the details of the draw later today.
