If Celtic are looking to move on some of the dead wood from this campaign then they should start with Youssouf Mulumbu.
The 32-year-old Congolese international joined the club as a free agent last summer. His acquisition just highlighted the lazy nature of signings made by Brendan Rodgers and Lee Congerton in their time at the club.
Mulumbu had been a good performer for Kilmarnock in 2017/2018 but his transfer to the champions on deadline day still raised eyebrows.
Failed to make an impact
Mulumbu is the very definition of a pointless signing. He made just three appearances for Celtic last season before moving back to Kilmarnock on loan.
The even more alarming part of his time at the club so far is that two of his three appearances have come in Europe. Brendan Rodgers threw the midfielder in against both Salzburg and Leipzig in meaningful Europa League fixtures.
Contract situation
Mulumbu has another year to run on his contract but is unlikely to make any impression for Celtic. The club must look to move him on this summer. He didn’t cost any money in terms of transfer fee and will have been on a relatively low wage so nothing has really been lost.
It’s just a case of drawing a line under the whole affair and moving on.
