Celtic should make a point of principle this summer and refuse to sell a single player to Leicester City. The Foxes are reported by the Scotsman to be interested in Callum McGregor for £10million. They’ve also been linked with Kieran Tierney in recent weeks.
While Celtic would ideally like to keep the duo around, that may not be possible. However, selling to Brendan Rodgers and Leicester City should be off limits.
Why?
Rodgers walked out on the club he claimed to love back in February. While many couldn’t begrudge him another crack at the English Premier League, it was the timing that stung most.
He left us without a manager and three other major coaching staff just 24 hours before a crucial Premiership clash at Tynecastle. We also had a trip to Hibernian in the Scottish Cup a few days later and games against Aberdeen and Rangers on the horizon.
Rodgers may have come in for some vast criticism from the support that once adored him but he’s lucky things turned out okay. Had Neil Lennon not come in and led us to a third successive treble things could’ve been a lot worse.
What should the club do?
Quite simply, the club should refuse to do any dealings with Leicester City while Rodgers is in charge. The Northern Irishman refused to show us any respect in his final days so why should we return any favour.
If the Foxes bid for any of our players this summer it should be rejected without consideration. Maybe then he’ll start to understand the hurt he’s caused.
