Celtic have returned to the summit of the Scottish Premiership following their 3-1 victory over St Johnstone yesterday at Parkhead.

In a dominant display, Kyogo Furuhashi, Nicolas Kuhn, and James Forrest were on target for the Bhoys. A late consolation from Connor Smith granted the visitors a minor reward for their efforts, though nothing more than that.

Nevertheless, Celtic were imperious against Craig Levein’s outfit, recording 74% possession and 23 shots on goal, with ten hitting the target [BBC Sport].

Furuhashi and Alistair Johnston also saw goals ruled out for offside, which could’ve made an imposing display nothing short of an annihilation on another day.

Despite this, yesterday had many positive aspects, and Brendan Rodgers’ men look to have overcome their profligate nature, having netted 14 goals in their last three home matches.

Now, the Hoops have discovered they will remain top of the table for the duration of the international break following news that Dundee vs Rangers was postponed earlier today.

As far as some of our performances at home have gone this season, our victory over St Johnstone certainly comes in at the more impressive end of the scale.

There have been days where we haven’t lived up to the lofty standards usually set at Parkhead; however, there is now hope our recent increase in productivity can make all the difference once the campaign concludes.

Rodgers will agree with this notion, though he has been quick to point out the ‘very important’ aspect of maintaining a high tempo for 90 minutes, which his side vigorously adhered to.

He stated [Celtic FC]: “I said before the game it is very important, the speed of the game, for us in order to tire out the opponent and bring the level to a level that makes it really difficult, so I thought the players worked very hard in that aspect.”

“They had some really good moments, some really good combinations and bright bits of play, and, like I said, that led to our goals – and good goals.”

Nobody will be getting too ahead of themselves after our victory against St Johnstone; however, Celtic seem to be getting closer to hitting their stride at an important stage in the campaign.

Yesterday, there was a noticeable commitment to turning over possession from the Bhoys, who, at times, fought in packs to ensure we could stamp our authority on proceedings at the expense of our Perthshire opposition.

Fighting spirit is an important commodity to possess in a title race, and hopefully, once the international break is over, Rodgers’ men can continue to string together convincing victories on their way to a domestic double.
