New Celtic winger Hyunjun Yang has shared that he has no fears about settling into life across the world from his homeland, because he already has a mate in the existing squad.
Yang, just 21, has made the massive decision to move to Scotland from South Korea and pursue his dream of a strong career in European football. It won’t be easy and there are certainly hurdles ahead, but there are hopes he can fulfil his potential across the five-year contract he signed at the Scottish champions.
The attacker is buoyed by the fact he has compatriots around him at Lennoxtown with fellow new signing Hyeokkyu Kwon in place alongside Hyeongyu Oh. And it’s Oh, in particular, he feels can help him adjust to life in Glasgow.
Yang said this week [The Herald]: “I know that Oh and Kwon both speak better English than me but because I am a beginner, I think I can learn a lot faster than other players.
“Oh and I have been good friends for a while. After the move to Celtic was agreed he gave me some good advice. The main thing was that I have to become more independent and show a good mentality as a player. I watched a few of his matches for Celtic and in one of the games he scored and made his signature pose. That was really inspiring to me and motivated me.
“I met him for the first time before the World Cup. I’m quite a shy person but Oh was very friendly and he took care of me, making some jokes. We went to cafes and restaurants together. They both take good care of me and I expect to settle in well and learn a lot from both of them.”

It’s pleasing to hear he has confidence of adjusting to the demands of Celtic. With Oh in place, having led the way over the last six months, it sounds as if there’s a strong unit there that can help each other with the road ahead.
Yang has travelled with the squad to Dublin for today’s match against Wolves at the Aviva Stadium. Considering he was in the middle of his season in South Korea before making the switch, he should be in good fitness condition.
So, there’s every chance we get our first glimpse of the winger at some point throughout the afternoon. That would be exciting for fans and big step for the player ahead of the Scottish Premiership kick-off next week.
