Celtic signings shouldn’t depend on English window

If Celtic want to make signings then it shouldn’t be dependant on the English transfer window, which closes on Thursday.

However, transfers can still go out meaning Celtic have plenty of time.

The Scottish window shuts at the end of August meaning The Hoops can swoop in at any time.

So far Luca Connell is the only player to cross the border and swap the south for the north. Nevertheless, other English players have been merely rumoured in recent days.

Striker is a massive position at Celtic and arguably the hardest role to fulfil. However, the recent link is to left-back Rico Henry.

The Hoops shouldn’t feel pressured into selling their own players or bringing other into the club because the English window is about to shut.

If anything, Neil Lennon and co can use it as an advantage.

Teams will be properly settled by the end of August meaning any players who are available may become available on the cheap.

Celtic must be wary of late bids

On the other hand, English teams can use their early date and a positive as well.

The Kieran Tierney saga is dragging on with Arsenal really the only club interested.

If Celtic want to sell for big bucks, The Gunners are the only team close to doing that.

They could make a lower, last minute ‘take it or leave it’ offer for Tierney which the club might accept.

Kristoffer Ajer and Callum McGregor are also targets for other sides and something similar can happen there too.

It may take a couple of years, but sides north and south of the border will try and see how the early English dates will benefit their teams.
