Celtic SLO explains reason for Dundee Utd kickoff time

Celtic SLO JP Taylor has explained why the club’s kickoff time vs Dundee United has been changed.

The game against the Arabs at Parkhead, due to take place on December 30th, was originally due to kickoff at 7:45pm. This was ideal for supporters given it’s a working day and available to season-ticket holders.

However, the new arrangement has seen the game moved forward to 3pm. This, naturally, has caused a stir given many will be working during the contest and therefore won’t be able to see the game. In fact, supporters were seething at the decision in truth.

But reliable club figure JP has gotten back in touch with a concerned supporters and explained to him why the decision was taken:

Celtic fans and many others missing out

It’s a shame that this is the case and it’s not only Celtic fans missing out. As JP says, there are other fixtures on that day. Six Premiership teams will be kicking off at 3pm which means season-ticket holders for half of those sides will miss out. It’s the same for Livingston supporters too who host Aberdeen at 4pm that day.

This is likely so Celtic and Rangers both have the same period of time to recover ahead of the derby. Rangers are one of the clubs now playing at the same time as us.

But put it this way – if we were to lose to Rangers at Ibrox, it won’t be because we played a few hours after them several days beforehand. Spare me that idea. We should be confident of playing at 7:45pm so many season-ticket holders can see it as well as beating Rangers days later.

It’s not really a big deal in my view. I would much rather we all had the opportunity to see the Utd game and had a couple of hours less than Rangers to prep. Nobody is going to look at this decision as key if we beat Rangers.

But what’s done is done. Celtic will face Utd at 3pm with many supporters forced to check the score when their boss isn’t looking.

For those with a Pass to Paradise and a 9-5 shift that day – good luck trying to avoid the score! Hopefully it’s a convincing win for the Bhoys in any case.
