The Celtic supporters have been urged to stay away from Parkhead this Saturday over fears regarding the spread of Covid.
The Hoops host Rangers in what is by some distance their biggest game of the season so far. Neil Lennon’s side can go top of the table with a win, or they could lose their title initiative with a defeat.
Supporters have been banned from stadiums since March in Scotland despite a couple of test events that were held back in September. However, despite new restrictions in and around the central belt of the nation, the lack of a full lockdown allows supporters to head to Parkhead during the game without breaking guidelines – so long as they’re socially distanced.
But the Celtic Supporter Liason Officer has urged supporters to use common sense and stay at home during the vital derby clash vs Steven Gerrard’s side.
Vital not to put the club in trouble
We all know about the health and safety risks that would be involved in simply turning up to Celtic Park and mixing with other supporters. If there are large groups hoarded together then government restrictions would be broken due to a lack of social distancing.
However, it’s clear Celtic don’t even want socially distanced crowds gathering at the stadium, and they’re quite right too.
The last thing we need is to carelessly put the club into trouble by defying guidelines and representing the club in a way that breaks Covid rules or even risks it. Goodness knows what repercussions that would have on Celtic as a club.
The lack of progress in getting fans back into stadiums is becoming frustrating for many. But given the rise of cases that are occurring across Scotland at the moment, it’s understandable why the club doesn’t need groups gathering around the ground.
It would be ridiculously frustrating for the Celtic support if a small minority overshadowed beating our rivals due to not listening to the club or government guidelines. Yet it’s also important to remember that the Hoops fans have been incredibly obedient to orders throughout the pandemic, as have all fans in Scotland.
That will undoubtedly continue to be the case on Saturday.
