Celtic’s Jeremie Frimpong was expected to be a player for the future when he joined the club from Manchester City in the summer.
However, he has already made his first-team debut for the Hoops. The right-back turned in a fine display in the Betfred Cup quarter-final 5-0 win over Partick Thistle.
Frimpong’s good performance didn’t come as a surprise to one Celtic player – Jonny Hayes. Hayes revealed that the first-team players have been impressed with Frimpong, who is just 18, since he joined the club.
“Since he came in, first five minutes of his first session we’ve been talking about him” Hayes said, in an interview with Frimpong on Celtic’s YouTube channel following the win over Partick.
“Gone out and done it tonight”

“He’s obviously impressed all the players and the management as well. Exactly what he does in training every day he’s gone out and done it tonight.”
The fact that Hayes and his team-mates were impressed with Frimpong after only five minutes of his first training session with the Hoops can only be a good thing for the player.
May have battle on his hands for first-team place

Perhaps the only thing that will stop him being a first-team regular for the Hoops this season is that Celtic already have two right-backs in the squad in Moritz Bauer and Hatem Abd Elhamed.
However, Frimpong looks to have taken his chance to impress in his competitive debut. He may well feature for the first-team a few more times this season as a result. That could depend on injury and team selection. For now though, Frimpong should be delighted with his Hoops debut.
