Celtic stand closer to Premiership glory than you may realise

Celtic are in a good position at the top of the Premiership, with just seven games to go.

Ange Postecoglou’s Hoops have been in scintillating form in 2022 – taking 31 points from a possible 33.

Only Hibernian have prevented us from winning in the league this calendar year, and even they lost at Celtic Park.

That incredible run, and some dropped points from across the city, have put Ange’s new-look side in pole position to regain the title.

Three points may not quite be considered a “commanding” lead, but Celtic may also be in a more better position than you realise.

A combination of upcoming derbies, and fixtures rapidly running out, means Celtic could have this league wrapped up in a matter of weeks. And it’s not entirely unfeasible either.

So humour me, as I take you through the numbers.

Four wins in a row could see Celtic effectively clinch the title

Celtic currently enjoy a three point and a 14 goal lead over Rangers. With seven matches to go, it’s effectively a 3.5 point advantage.

Given that two of our next four league fixtures are likely to be against the Ibrox side, Celtic have the chance to be a minimum of nine clear with victory in our next four.

Our goal difference would be even more than 14 better at that stage – and with just three games to go the league would be all but over.

And that’s assuming Rangers didn’t drop any more points.

Of course, this would take a mammoth effort from Ange’s side. To beat Rangers home and away, St. Johnstone and an unknown top six team would take some effort.

But seeing off Hearts, Dundee United, Rangers, Motherwell and Aberdeen in the space of two weeks at the start of 2022 took some effort too.

The point is that Celtic have a chance to go for Rangers here. Victory at Ibrox would sicken them. Beating them at Paradise would end the title race for good.

What a huge opportunity we have over the next month.

In other news, Alfredo Morelos could be a doubt for next weekend’s game at Ibrox
