Ryan Christie and his Celtic teammates are putting their entire focus on Wednesday night’s match against Hamilton, before even entertaining thoughts about Sunday’s cup final against Rangers, The Scottish Sun report.
With a national final on the horizon against our closest rivals this season, it’s only natural that there’s going to be a massive amount of coverage and hype surrounding the fixture.
The Hoops are shooting for the opportunity to win our tenth successive domestic honour following our incredible ‘treble treble’ success of the last few years.
For Christie though, who was again in excellent form at the weekend, it’s all about putting focus on the visit of Accies.
As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said: “We have the mentality to win every game and it has got us into a good place.
“The gaffer says as soon as we let that slip, even for a second, that’s when you get punished and it’s hard to get your consistency levels back up.
“All eyes will be on Sunday for a lot of people but the league is the priority for us at the moment.”
Players with a lesser mentality might allow themselves to get caught up in the drama of the upcoming derby.
However, this is nothing new for Celtic. Over the last few seasons, the team have managed to block out any distractions when it matters and deliver trophies on an unprecedented scale.
It’s hard to argue that the visit of Hamilton to Celtic Park is our biggest match of the week, but dropping points and potentially allowing Rangers to move clear at the top of the table is the kind of thing we could do without heading into the rest of December.
We’ve won our last ten matches in a row and making it eleven ahead of Sunday is perfect preparation.
I’m sure as soon as the final whistle goes against Accies that Neil Lennon will be preparing his team mentally for the challenge ahead at Hampden.
