Celtic standards strong as Ange Postecoglou feeds back derby errors to winning squad

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou will be the last person at Lennoxtown resting on the laurels of another derby victory over Rangers and has made that perfectly clear this weekend.

Postecoglou was full of praise for his players’ mentality and attitude in the wake of the 3-2 win over the Ibrox side but it seems the internal feedback was based more on the errors made on the day.

The Bhoys boss has been clear with his verdict that the performance last week was far from perfect and that improvements can be made – this was the message given to the squad on Monday morning.

Postecoglou said [Daily Record]: “When you’re analysing a game — and I get it, particularly here in Glasgow where if you take one side or another you’re painted as being in one camp or the other — but I think there are enough independent observers who could walk out of that game and say: ‘it was a game full of mistakes and ultimately not one decided the game.

“My role on a Monday is to analyse our performance and our players were outstanding in their character and will they showed to get the job done in a difficult game with a lot riding on it. But we made a lot of mistakes during that game and that’s the feedback we gave the players. If we want to improve that’s where the improvement will come from.”

Under any other manager, Celtic may well go into a coasting mode between now and the end of the season knowing they moved 12 points clear with just seven points remaining last week. But you just know that won’t be the case here.

The Australian is going to insist that his squad go full pelt until the title is clinched and even once that is achieved, he will demand high standards. Postecoglou wants his team on a path of constant improvement that can help make them more competitive in Europe.

That means the players won’t get a break until the final whistle of our very last match this season. And rightly so. This is exactly the kind of thing we want to be hearing from the Bhoys boss.
