The international break is at an end and Celtic supporters will be fired up to see their side return to competitive action this weekend.

Unlike other periods when club football is neglected, Celtic travelled to Sligo Rovers for a friendly last week and, thanks to Luis Palma, ran out late winners at the Showgrounds.

Nevertheless, there has been a scarce amount of discussion relating to the Scottish Premiership champions recently, barring events involving the Bhoys called up for international duty to feature for their respective nations.

However, the focus will finally shift back to all matters Celtic, starting this weekend with the Hoops’ top-of-the-table clash with Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.

Before casting collective attention to the box-office encounter, it is worth noting some good news surrounding one of Brendan Rodgers’ eight summer signings.

Auston Trusty makes appearance for the United States

In the early hours, Celtic defender Auston Trusty came off the bench for the United States against Mexico, marking his first involvement on the international scene since June 2023.

His only other appearances for the Stars and Stripes came against Canada and Grenada in the CONCACAF Nations League, taking his tally to three caps in total.

Unfortunately, his side fell to a 2-0 loss in Guadulajara owing to strikes from Raul Jimenez and Cesar Huerta. Trusty came off the bench for the final ten minutes to replace Antonee Robinson.

Nevertheless, his outing represents a significant step forward under new management in Mauricio Pochettino. Previously, Trusty wasn’t given the chance for a USA breakthrough against Panama, having to settle for a watching brief.

Auston Trusty’s Celtic progress after Sheffield Utd move

Trusty hasn’t had it easy since coming into Celtic, having to play on the right-hand side of central defence despite his natural left-footed disposition.

Nevertheless, the former Sheffield United man is settling into life in Glasgow and looks to be a shrewd addition to the backline, all things considered.

Last Sunday, a strong showing from Trusty in Celtic’s victory over Ross County offered a flavour of what he could bring to the side moving forward.

Now, the task for the American lies in breaching Liam Scales’ and Cameron Carter-Vickers’ hold of the two central berths in defence over the Bhoys’ next run of matches, something he will surely relish.
