It’s a good time to be Celtic winger Jota; you’re beloved by supporters, you’re playing in a dynamic front three and now, you’re being recognised by the SPFL.
The Portuguese winger, on loan from Benfica, has been on absolute fire alongside Kyogo and Liel Abada in particular. He’s averaging a goal involvement 101 minutes, with 6 goals and 6 assists from 1219 minutes of football in total.
After his show-stopping display against Dundee at the weekend, he’s made the SPFL Team of the Week.
Of his performance, the SPFL wrote:
“Another terrific performance from the on-loan Benfica winger helped Ange Postecoglou’s side to three points as they defeated Dundee 4-2 at Dens Park on Sunday. Jota notched two goals and an assist to keep Celtic four points behind rivals Rangers in the cinch Premiership.”
Meanwhile, another Celtic player made the TOTW, despite not being at the club. Kerr McInroy, at Airdrieonians, also got a nod from the SPFL. After an impressive showing against Peterhead, the SPFL reckoned:
“Four victories in five matches have taken Ian Murray’s men to the top of cinch League 1. The latest opponent to be vanquished were Peterhead, who were beaten 3-1 in Lanarkshire with McInroy getting the second goal and helping to dominate the midfield area.”
More acclaim for Celtic star Jota, but it’s also encouraging to see McInroy doing well
It was natural that after such a thumping win, a Celtic player would make the Team of the Week. It was Jota this time, but could just as easily been Anthony Ralston.
Celtic star man Jota, though, definitely deserves praise. The former Portugal youth international seems to improve with each game. Fast, clever and clinical, he’s been an inspired bit of business. Even more so if he’s signed permanently.
Let’s not ignore McInroy here, though.

The former Celtic youth captain has endured a tricky time getting into the first-team. Despite some encouraging displays in pre-season, Postecoglou clearly felt some more time away from the club would be the making of him.
Thus far, he’s shown he can be a dominant midfield presence. Not only that, he’s capable of dictating play, setting up his teammates and chipping in with goals, too. From a deeper midfield role, that’s particularly impressive.
All in, a good week for Celtic representatives across the SPFL. If only there wasn’t an international break!
