Ange Postecoglou delivered a fresh injury timeframe for the return of Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis as he faces a fight to be fit for the Premier Sports Cup final on December 19th.

Giakoumakis has been out of action since November 7th after picking up a concerning knee injury and playing through the pain barrier against Dundee.

Postecoglou recently stated that Celtic were investigating the issue, which appeared to throw up more complications than it first appeared to [Go Radio]. But it appears there’s finally a return date set for the big Greek forward.

Speaking at a press conference in which 67HailHail attended, Ange said: “He got a knock against Dundee. He’ll be about 2 to 3 weeks.”

Giakoumakis has had a slow start to his Celtic career since joining in the summer. So far, the powerful frontman only has 1 goal in 8 appearances.

It’s fair to say he’s struggled to integrate himself into the team, with his impact yet to be felt.

Giorgos Giakoumakis has a big chance to make a Celtic impact in December

Frustrating for the big Greek that he’s having to miss out on some big opportunities. That cup final clash against Hibernian is already less than 3 weeks away. It’ll come right at the period in which Ange is hoping he’ll be back for.

Of course, we know Giakoumakis won’t start the game. He wouldn’t have done even if he was fit. That spot belongs to Kyogo Furuhashi and rightly so. But Celtic badly lack options in the centre-forward position at the moment.

Without Kyogo, Celtic are having to rely on Albian Ajeti, a player we know just isn’t cut out for the Celtic first-team. At the very least, Giakoumakis still has a big opportunity to make it here.

Hopefully he’s back well before the new year period for a star. This sequence of games gives him the perfect opportunity to show himself as a plausible replacement for Kyogo.

He’ll definitely get his opportunities. The squad rotation that’ll be in place will demand Kyogo needs a rest period. Not to mention just having the different dimension that Giakoumakis brings would be a boost.

Fingers crossed he makes a swift return.
