Celtic winger Jota has been recognised by UEFA for his fantastic late strike against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Although it ultimately ended in extra disappointment for Ange Postecoglou’s side, the 23-year-old was able to pull back a consolation goal for the Hoops.
And it was a hell of a strike from the winger, scoring a brilliant free-kick effort, which left world-class shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois, with no chance.

The late strike was clearly an incredible moment for Jota, who would have been left gutted that his fantastic strike didn’t mean anything in the end.
The Portuguese attacker was praised for his strike, which gave the Celtic supporters in attendance the superb moment of the Bhoys’ score at an iconic venue.
However, the winger has also been recognized for his effort by UEFA after being nominated for their Champions League goal of the week award.
Celtic’s number 17 joined other top footballing talents such as PSG’s Kylian Mbappe and Bayern Munich forward Eric Choupo-Moting.
Previous winners of the award include the likes of Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland, who were nominated for their strikes early in the competition.
So, it is fair to say that Jota has joined some very high-profile names in the game that have also been up for the goal of the week award this season.
It certainly wasn’t the result that Ange Postecoglou or his players were looking for going into this game. So, you would imagine the Celtic boss won’t be dwelling on Jota’s late strike.
Although I am sure as a team player Jota is also gutted, there will be a small part of him that was left buzzing with his class free-kick effort.
This isn’t the first time Jota has been recognised by UEFA after he and Kyogo were praised on social media for their involvement in the opener against Ferencvaros last campaign.
So the winger is likely to be catching the eye of other clubs across the continent.
After his fantastic start to the new season, fingers crossed, this strike against the current European champions will help him kick on even further and play a major part for the rest of the season.
