Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley has not been called up to the Denmark squad for this summer’s Euro 2024 tournament in Germany.
The Bhoys talent was in superb form throughout the 2023/24 season, scoring 19 goals and assisting 18 more in all competitions for the club.
O’Riley has previously made two appearances for the Danish national side and was called up to squads in October and November of last year, as well as in March of this one.
It’s something of a surprise then not to see him included in Kasper Hjulmand’s 26-man line-up for the upcoming tournament, which was announced on Thursday afternoon.
We’ve yet to hear Hjulmand’s reasons for his omission or how the news will go down in Denmark. Many football fans in the country have been tracking O’Riley’s progress over the last 12 months – especially after impressive performances in the UEFA Champions League.

Matt O’Riley has a big summer ahead
O’Riley has a big summer of decisions ahead regardless of his missing out on Germany.
Speculation on the midfielder’s future at Celtic remains fierce. Multiple transfer stories have linked him with a move away from the Bhoys.
It’s expected that if he does leave, the Scottish Champions will receive a mammoth fee. Celtic have nothing to fear and hold a strong hand in negotiations.
Celtic fans don’t want to wave goodbye to the Danish international but understand how modern football works and that O’Riley may feel his future is best served in a more illustrious league.
That feeling may grow after missing out on a major championship with Denmark. Hjulmand apparently prefers talents who are featuring in the bigger leagues around Europe.
