Celtic star Tom Rogic helps Australia to crucial WCQ win

Celtic attacking midfielder Tom Rogic helped Australia to a crucial World Cup qualifying win over Oman this evening.

Rogic started the match and was substituted off just after the hour mark, but it wasn’t due to injury.

He had mixed fortunes during the match but did pop up at a crucial moment to cut back a pass that set-up an opportunity for Martin Boyle to score the second goal in a 3-1 victory.

The Celtic star wasn’t credited with an assist, but it was his efforts that created the chance.

Celtic’s European-based players feature for their countries later this week, but it is so far, so good on the fitness front for two of the club’s most important players right now.

As we discussed earlier, our Japanese star came through his fixture unscathed too.

Australia’s win puts them top of Group B with nine points after three matches. It’s a very healthy position to be in, especially with Japan losing to Saudi Arabia earlier tonight.

The Socceroos now travel to Saitama and take on Kyogo’s outfit on Tuesday night.

That should be an entertaining watch with lots on the line for both countries.
