Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis under medical supervision after injury scare and scan on Greece duty

Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis felt discomfort in his leg during Greece training this week, which required a scan to determine the extent of any injury issue.

While nothing serious was flagged in that process, the Bhoys forward remains under the supervision of the medical staff with his national team. Participation in the upcoming match against Northern Ireland is still possible.

Giakoumakis was always due to miss tonight’s Greece fixture against Cyprus because of a suspension.

The news of the injury scare and scan has been reported by various Greek outlets, including NovaSports, All About Aris and Sportime journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos.

Celtic must have Giakoumakis fit and firing for upcoming tests in the Scottish Premiership and UEFA Champions League – an injury to the striker is the last thing we need heading into a busy period.

Hopefully, the Greece staff take all precautions with the forward, already knowing that he would have been available for one of their matches.

Ideally, he would be on his way back to Glasgow and working with people at Lennoxtown. However, there is no suggestion that has happened or will happen. That in itself may suggest the issue is minor, even beyond the scan not picking up a major issue.

David Turnbull recently dropped out of the Scotland squad with an ankle injury but as far as we can tell, there are no other injury issues with the Bhoys group so far this window.

We’ll keep our ears to the ground and keep you updated with all the latest if we get it.
