Young Celtic striker Johnny Kenny has hit form in the League of Ireland Premier Division after scoring more goals for Shamrock Rovers over the bank holiday weekend.
Kenny joined Celtic in January 2022 and was sent back to his homeland last year to continue his development. His deal at Rovers was extended into 2024 and it’s paying off so far.
The striker scored another derby goal against Bohemians in a 1-1 draw on Friday night and has followed that up with an effort at home to Waterford this evening.
Netting six goals in his last nine league matches, Kenny has already matched his tally from the entirety of last term and looks set to push on to new heights over the coming months.

Still just 20 and with a contract that doesn’t expire until 2026, Celtic will be keeping close tabs on Kenny’s improvement across the Irish Sea.
His loan spell is going under the radar given the lack of spotlight on Irish football in Scotland but if he continues to bang in the goals then his profile will increase.
Ange Postecoglou described him as a player who has “really good attributes” when he arrived, sharing that Celtic had scouted the striker for a long time before winning the race to land him.
His attitude and desire to improve has also been lauded by his Rovers manager since making the switch back to Ireland.
He may be a long way from making an impact at first-team level with the Bhoys, but we’ve seen players come from the fringes before after loans to impress and cement their status within the squad.
Hopefully, he can build up a run of consistent starts and goalscoring over the summer months before returning to Celtic motivated to make an impact.
