Outrageously good Celtic talent Odsonne Edouard is certainly making the run-in a bit more bearable.

Every individual Hoops supporters will have their own view on the Frenchman. For example, has the big Frenchman done enough this season? Why didn’t he produce the goods for much of the first half of the season? Why has it taken him until the title race is over for him to turn it on?

Whilst you can see the merit in that kind of chat, it also has to be put into context. And that context being that nobody at Celtic has performed to any great degree over the last few months, Outside the emergence of Ismaila Soro and David Turnbull, who can honestly put their hands up and say they did well enough between August and February?

Nobody is the answer. The entire club has been criticised from top to bottom for both its results and conduct off the pitch as well. It’s attitude towards the supporters and season-ticket holders has been a real cause for alarm amongst a support that has such apathy for their football club nowadays.

Yet whilst the performances still aren’t anything to roar about, the results have taken a more positive trajectorial path. Four consecutive wins that have come thanks to six goals from French Eddy. That’s just part of a run of eight goals in six games – marking every match in that run with a successful strike.

And it’s the quality of his goals that have brought some real praise over the last few weeks. Going back to his goal against Hamilton, he had to show great close control to get a sight of goal before slamming home. He followed that up with a clever dinked finish at home to St Mirren before again sending a cute finish beyond Kilmarnock goalkeeper Colin Doyle.

Lennon needs Celtic star Edouard to stay in-form for the run-in

Another powerful finish against Motherwell has been followed with two brilliantly taken finishes this afternoon. A couple of penalties have been notched throughout that run, but Edouard is finally giving the Celtic fans something to talk about.

Even if he’s gone in the summer, he’s providing something positive for supporters to view. Something to look forward to seeing before every game. He’s on a pretty incredible run of form and now looks favourite to be the top goalscorer in Scotland once again this season.

Last season, he managed to bag 28 efforts in a curtailed campaign [Transfermarkt]. He has eight to go to match that total, and you would hardly put it past him given his current form.

This afternoon’s goals were of an extremely high quality. It shows the consistently and confidence with which he’s operating that. And even if he’s carrying this Celtic team and its manager, he’s at least bringing us some wins.

Because make no mistake, more and more defeats would’ve let to an even higher level of doom and gloop sweeping the club. It’s become pretty clear that Lennon isn’t going anywhere until the end of the season. So it’s good to get a few wins under our belts and start feeling a bit better about ourselves.

Edouard’s contribution has led to plenty of praise on social media, especially taking into consideration today’s exploits. Here’s what fans are saying about him after his vital brace in Perth today:

In other news, one particular Neil Lennon stance is becoming concerning.
