The Celtic supporters have moved to laud Callum McGregor after feeling that he simply doesn’t get the praise his Scotland performances merit.

McGregor was a key cog in Steve Clarke’s midfield as Scotland beat Denmark 2-0 on a sensational night at Hampden. The result ensures Scotland will be given a home tie for their World Cup semi-final playoff in March.

McGregor has been a constant in Clarke’s starting XIs both at Euro 2020 and throughout the World Cup qualifying group. He’s appeared in all 10 of the qualifying games, starting 8 of them [Transfermarkt]. Yet it always feels as though it’s Billy Gilmour and John McGinn that consistently come away with the plaudits.

State experts WhoScored clocked McGregor as having the best passing percentage of anyone on the pitch for Scotland last night. Producing 43 passes on the night, Callum secured an 88.4% accuracy rate.

In addition to that, he managed to make 4 interceptions. That’s greater than anyone else in the Scotland team as he consistently broke up Denmark’s attacks.

Credit to Callum for what he’s producing in both a dark blue as well as a green and white jersey. The only difference being that his influence appears to be appreciated and highlighted more when he’s playing for Celtic.

Last night, he was an absolute standout against one of the best teams in world football at the moment. Certainly one of the best in Europe. Considering they’re ranked 10th in the world rankings, that tells its own story.

McGregor was a leader throughout the game too. You could constantly see him looking to direct the likes of McGinn and Gilmour as he passed on regular advice and instructions throughout. There’s a reason Scotland look so sluggish in the middle of the park when McGregor doesn’t feature.

But in fairness to Clarke, he clearly sees the full value in having Callum front and centre. He takes him absolutely everywhere, and could easily become a future Scotland captain when Andy Robertson’s time comes.

For now, let’s take a look at the fan reaction below as the Celtic fans moved to give their captain the spotlight he deserved:
