Anthony Ralston has signed a new four-year contract with Celtic.

Celtic teased supporters with a brick wall tweet, in reference to Anthony’s “The Holy Brickie” moniker. That was enough to send Celtic twitter into overdrive, before the club made the announcement [Celtic FC].

Ralston has been nothing short of a revelation this season. Somewhat forgotten about in the summer, the right-back has simply exploded into life under Ange Postecoglou. If you’d told Celtic supporters that he’d be keeping a Croatia international from the right-back slot, none would’ve believed you.

Yet, here we are. Ralston has absolutely earned a new deal at Celtic. Currently, he’s the top performer in the Scottish Premiership, according to WhoScored?. He’s provided goals and assists, while defending stoutly and contributing to his team on and off the ball.

From right-back, his defensive work has been solid, but he’s also contributing going forward. In the Premiership, he’s making 1.8 key passes per 90, dribbling with the ball 1.3 times a game [WhoScored?].

What a contrast from when he signed his extension in the summer. The former Dundee United and St Johnstone loanee was an afterthought. Now, he’s a focal point, and a key building block for Ange Postecoglou and his Celtic side.

“Brickyyyy”; Anthony Ralston delights Celtic fans with contract extension

Celtic supporters love being proved wrong, sometimes. Although Ralston has had a more difficult route to becoming a fan favourite, that makes it all the sweeter.

While signings have delighted supporters, there’s nothing quite like seeing an Academy graduate make the grade. Especially one like Ralston, who’s fought tooth and nail to remain at the club.

Now he’s shining. Supporters were delighted by today’s news:
