Celtic supporters leave Alex Rae looking daft after bizarre Jota dig

It seems that the form of Celtic star Jota is too much for some ex-professionals and media pundits to handle without bitterness.

The Portuguese attacker has been a sensation since moving on loan from Benfica. With six goals and six assists in 14 appearances, he’s already proving to be an exciting and impactful talent in both the Scottish Premiership and Europa League.

In fact, it’s resulted in Celtic supporters urging the club to push the boat out and activate the transfer clause in his loan deal, securing him in Glasgow on a permanent basis.

Former players such as John Hartson reckon the Bhoys should make that move too, fearing big clubs across the continent may look to swoop in and turn Jota’s head elsewhere.

Not bitter Alex Rae though, who seems to have misunderstood just how highly rated Jota is in Europe with a bizarre, sarcastic tweet in response to Hartson’s comments, stating: “Better hurry up Real Madrid + Barca are about to strike.”

Unfortunately for Rae, Jota has been on the radar of big clubs before, including Real Madrid.

Real Madrid interest in Celtic hero Jota isn’t absurd

Spanish outlet AS reported back in 2019 that Madrid even bid £15.5m for the player, only to have it rejected by Benfica at the time. The Spanish giants didn’t return to activate his release clause.

This isn’t the fantasy valuations of Ryan Kent or Alfredo Morelos – significant money has been offered for Jota before. So why wouldn’t it be again as he starts to fulfil his potential at Europa League level?

That’s why the potential of a move to Celtic is tantalising at a sub-£10m price. The Bhoys would be getting a crowd-pleasing talent who can make a huge impact, as well as an asset that can be sold for a profit down the line.

And that’s exactly what Rae has been told on social media by many Celtic supporters who have made him look a bit daft with his comment.
