Yesterday, Celtic announced that Academy prospect Dane Murray had signed a new deal with the club.
The hotly-tipped young midfielder is just 17, and has played for Scotlandโs U17 and U16 sides already. A central midfielder, Murray is clearly part of Celticโs future. Unlike other Academy prospects, Murrayโs original deal, signed in 2020, was due to run until next summer. Now, though, heโs tied up until 2024, by which time heโll be 20 years old.
Quick side note, players who were born after the 2003 UEFA Cup Final in Seville will be first-team players relatively soon. Just in case you wanted to feel old, there.
Naturally, Celtic supporters have responded well to the news. The club havenโt managed to keep ahold of promising talents over the last year. Josh Adam joined Manchester City last summer [Sun], Liam Morrison joined Bayern Munich [Daily Record], while more recently, Liam Hughes left for Liverpool and Cameron Harper for New York Red Bulls.
There are also big names becoming free agents in the summer, unless Celtic act. Karamoko Dembรฉlรฉ and Armstrong Okoflexโs futures are both uncertain.
For Murray though, itโs a case of stability and progression. With the Academy set-up at his disposal, the youth prospect can focus on developing his game for club and country.
