Read MoreCeltic supporters react to Steve Clarke rumours
Celtic and Steve Clarke might be the board’s vision to regain the Scottish Premiership.
The Scotland manager is apparently a new “favourite” for the Celtic job. That’s if Neil Lennon gets his P45 in the summer. Having led the Men’s National Team to a major tournament for the first time since 1998, Clarke’s stock is high.
He’s also learned from José Mourinho, Luiz Felipe Scolari and Rafa Benitez as an assistant. In his own managerial career, he’s impressed at West Brom and Kilmarnock, who became a force in the Scottish Premiership under his auspices.
As Celtic manager though? As we discussed, it’s a bit of an awkward fit. While Clarke might be able to use considerable resources to create more exciting teams, his CV isn’t one of an “exciting” manager. Generally, his sides are built on solid defences, which is something Celtic could use. However, the boyhood Celtic supporter might not be a name that gets pulses racing around Kerrydale Street.
Celtic supporters react to Clarke talk
Still, there are some who consider him to be a sensible appointment for the Bhoys. Given our defensive struggles, a Mourinho acolyte may be just what Celtic need.
Here are some reactions to yesterday’s rumours.
No thanks

Neither O’Neill nor Rodgers had won much before they joined. Would Clarke win a lot with Celtic, as the others did? Probably, yes.

Roy Keane would make Neil Lennon look like Guardiola in comparison. There is absolutely no valid argument for giving Keane the Celtic job. As for Clarke, he wouldn’t be the most glamourous appointment but I guarantee you he’d be a better option than Keane.

Suffice it to say, Celtic and Clarke may not be the perfect marriage from the supporter’s perspective. As far as we’re concerned, it’s not the worst idea in the world. However, if the board want to assure season ticket sales stay at record levels, it’ll need to be a more exotic name through the door in the summer.
