Read MoreCeltic supporters respond to Chris Wilder speculation
Earlier today, we reported that Chris Wilder could be in the frame to replace Neil Lennon at Celtic.
The former Sheffield United manager left his job today after nearly 5 years with the Blades [BBC]. Wilder took Sheffield United to the Premier League and ensured safety after an impressive return to the top-flight.
Ultimately, the wheels have come off for Wilder and Sheffield United. They sit bottom of the Premier League, 12 points adrift of safety.
Having taken the historic club from the doldrums of League One to wins against Manchester United, he can leave Sheffield United with his head held high. Despite the disappointment of this season, Wilder cannot be blamed entirely. While owner Prince Abdullah funded a decent 2020 summer spend, on paper, many signings haven’t worked out.
Spending £5m on ex-Celtic man Oliver Burke hasn’t worked, while another Scotland international, Oli McBurnie, was signed for a whopping £20m by Wilder in 2019 [BBC].

Mixed signals from Celtic supporters over Chris Wilder
Celtic fans have been quick to respond to the Wilder speculation.
If anybody thinks Chris Wilder is the answer for @CelticFC just remember he spent £17.5 million on McBurnie. Not for me 🍀

Just got a notification that Chris Wilder of Sheffield United is 4 to 6 favourite for the Celtic job . It is as if our board are laying down waiting to have their tummy tickled by the Ibrox mob . No ambition at all and a sorry state of affairs at a great football club

Chris Wilder has an excellent record despite this season. He’s a passionate, honest fella and seems to get great things out of his players. I’d love to see him take the Celtic job.
