Odsonne Edouard and Timothy Weah would smash Celtic beyond Aberdeen

The duo of Odsonne Edouard and Timothy Weah have yet to be given the chance to be unleashed together on Scottish football.

The Frenchman is Celtic’s number one striker. That goes without saying after another impressive season in green-and-white where he’s bagged 19 goals so far.

But to say fans have been enthused with Weah would be an understatement. He has genuine pace to go with his sound technique on the ball, and consistently makes an impact when he’s chosen.

Yet, incredibly, Weah has only started for Celtic on three occasions since January. And when he has, it’s been without Edouard in the starting line-up.

The American sensation has barely had time to get on the pitch with his former PSG pal. The duo knows each other well from their days in the youth ranks in Paris. Weah previously opened up on how much he was looking forward to playing with French Eddy too.

And, when you look at their styles, they would complement each other superbly. Both have terrific control of the ball, and both players’ ability to link up with others is one of their strongest assets.

Weah breathes life into Celtic

On Saturday in the 0-0 draw with Livingston, Celtic came to life after the introduction of Weah. On two occasions, he came so close to setting up an opener for Edouard. The big Frenchman fired straight at Liam Kelly from a Weah knockdown, before the latter then sent a low cross that was inches away from being connected with by the Frenchman.

There’s nothing wrong by playing the two up top and potentially having one just drop a tad deeper. Fans certainly deserve to see what this duo could have in their locker together.

Aberdeen played Celtic well at Parkhead last month. But, in saying that, it was only after Weah came on once again that we started to look a threat against the Dons.

Sunday would be the perfect time to take them by surprise and start with two up top. The pair have more than enough quality to see off Derek McInnes’ side. Added to that, Neil Lennon can always mix things up if it doesn’t go as planned.

But this is a duo that supporters deserve to have a look at. Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that Lennon will start the pair.
