Eddie Howe couldn’t do what he did to Celtic, to Newcastle, could he? That’s the question many supporters are asking themselves this evening after an update from journalist Fabrizio Romano on his situation.
It has previously been reported that Howe has verbally agreed to take up the position at St James’ Park, just like he did with Celtic. [Sky Sports]
However, history appears to be repeating itself, with a situation regarding his potential backroom staff again holding up his potential appointment, reports Romano.
Howe famously strung Celtic along for months with the promise of delivering a backroom team, only to turn around and inform the Bhoys that this wouldn’t be possible, as told to 67 Hail Hail by the club.
Celtic then quickly moved on to Ange Postecoglou, who supporters have taken a real liking to in recent months. There aren’t many around who’d have preferred to have Howe in charge over the Australian.
Howe has remained silent on all that Celtic speculation. In fact, he’s largely been out of many football fans’ minds save for the odd appearance as a pundit in the media.
He’s enjoyed a pretty lengthy absence from football. It seems to be taking a lot to get him back in the game too.
Ultimately the riches of the new Magpies owners could help push this deal through in a way Celtic couldn’t earlier this year. However, would anyone be really surprised if this saga ends up similar to the one in Glasgow?
These Celtic supporters wouldn’t be, taking to Twitter tonight to share their thoughts on the situation…
