Celtic surpassed an Invincibles achievement at the weekend and it went largely unnoticed

Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic side broke a goal-scoring achievement reached by Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic and it went largely unnoticed at the weekend.

The 2-2 draw with St Mirren and the reaction to another disappointing performance overshadowed the fact that Celtic netted their 106th and 107th goal of the season.

Kyogo’s 31st goal of the domestic campaign equalled the legendary side’s tally. And ten minutes before time, Celtic captain Callum McGregor scored the team’s 107th goal that surpassed the Invincibles record of 106.

Celtic’s record-chasing form shows how far they have come under Ange Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou’s team have been relentless this season. At one point, they were on course to break our record ever points tally of 106 which was achieved by Brendan Rodgers’ side in 2017.

That moment passed with the draw against Motherwell at Celtic Park. With two games to go, the most points we could reach is 102.

We were on course to break our 107-year record of goals scored in a season. 116 was the total set in 1915/16. But we are well short of that target now. However, Celtic could equal, and break, the Lisbon Lions’ record for most league goals scored. That total stands at 111.

Kyogo, at one point in the season, was also on course the break through the 40-goal barrier. An accomplishment that only Henrik Larsson and Leigh Griffiths have reached this century.

And then there is the ultimate prize at the end of the season. The Treble. If we can manage to get past Inverness Caley Thistle on June 3rd, that will be Celtic’s eighth as a club and Callum McGregor’s fifth as a player.

Both of those feats would be world records in their own right.

When you consider this is only Ange Postecoglou’s second season at the club, it leaves you looking forward to his third with an air of excitement as we look to build on this season’s successes.
