The team here at 67 Hail Hail have had a few comments from our audience on the subject of suspensions at Celtic this week, so it’s worth checking in to see what the status of the squad is heading into the final Scottish Premiership run-in.
Scottish FA rules dictate that an accumulation of six cautionable offences in the Premiership results in a one-match suspension, which kicks in 14 days after the match the sixth yellow card was issued.
So, contrary to some belief, Cameron Carter-Vickers is not suspended despite picking up another caution in last week’s derby match at home to Rangers. That was his fifth of the season in the top flight.

That’s worth taking note of but the American international is in clear for the remainder of the season, too. Those six bookings must come in the first half of a 38-game season, with 12 yellows needed to trigger the automatic suspension heading into the second set of 19 games. [SFA 2022/23 guidance]
Moritz Jenz picked up four yellows but he has now left the Bhoys, with Greg Taylor the next closest on three. There’s then a large clutch on two for the league season and a smattering on one.
Callum McGregor and David Turnbull are the only players to have been sent off for Celtic in the league this season, but those suspensions have obviously already been served.
So the squad is in good shape for the final seven matches, including tomorrow’s trip to Rugby Park to face Kilmarnock. With injuries to Liel Abada and Reo Hatate also hopefully clearing up shortly, Ange Postecoglou will have a very deep group to call upon when pushing the title over the line.
With the small matter of a treble to shoot for too, the more talent available, the better!
