Reported Celtic transfer target Birger Meling looks likely to leave Rosenborg in the not too distant future.
That’s after his manager admitted that he would probably be for the off “at some point” in the near future.
Celtic were linked with the 24-year-old by the Scottish Sun earlier this week. They stated that the Hoops were seriously considering making a move for the Norwegian who is out of contract in December 2020.
Rosenborg are understood to have rejected an offer from MLS side Los Angeles FC just last week. However, RBK boss Eirik Horneland wasn’t exactly confident of keeping his man beyond this summer.
The Scotsman have a short quote from the 44-year-old as he touched on Meling’s future.
He said: “Birger will probably leave at some point.”
Are Celtic going to move for Meling?
It’s difficult to know if there’s any substance to the Meling rumours. His name is certainly one that has been mentioned commonly on social media. Celtic fans seem pretty obsessed with the left-back after watching him compete against the Hoops on numerous occasions over the past two years or so.
Celtic have played Rosenborg that often that you wouldn’t be surprised to see the club aware of Meling. We have shopped well in Scandinavia in recent years with the likes of Mikael Lustig, Kristoffer Ajer and Stefan Johansen going on to become important first-team players.
Meling clearly has lots of ability and can improve further at 24. Signing him looks like it would be a smart piece of business.
