Celtic target Luca Connell spotted at Celtic Park amid speculation

Celtic look like they’ve got over David Turnbull pretty quickly, if a recent photo is anything to go by. The 19-year-old Motherwell talent’s potential move was ended by the Lanarkshire club on Thursday following weeks of negotiations.

Turnbull is said to have a knee injury that was picked up during his Celtic medical. The teenager needs an operation and will therefore continue as a Motherwell player over the coming months.

However, Celtic’s teenage midfield hunt has gone on, and one player does look close to signing. That man is Bolton Wanderers 18-year-old Luca Connell – who was spotted by an eagle-eyed Hoops fan inside the stadium on Thursday.

Connell won’t be available for nothing

The youngster is likely to swap the English side for the Hoops this summer. However, he won’t be available on a cut-price compensation deal as was widely believed.

The Bolton News reports that the Irish midfielder is contracted as a third-year scholar until next summer. That means that he can’t be poached for a development fee of £250,000 unless his contract is ripped up.

While this doesn’t exactly make great reading for Celtic, the good news is that a move is still close. Connell wouldn’t have been up at Celtic Park had a fee not been agreed so we can rest easy that the club have their finger on the pulse.

Time will tell whether the teenager is ready for an immediate tilt at the first team or whether he’ll have to bide his time. One thing’s for sure – he couldn’t be going into a tougher area of the park.
