Celtic defensive target Tomas Kalas will sign for Bristol City according to reports.

Bristol Live believes the Chelsea man will sign for The Robins today.

According to the Scottish Sun, the Hoops have been long time admirers of the man who was on-loan at Bristol last season.

However, it appears his former club have won the race to sign him.

Even under Brendan Rodgers, the Hoops were chasing the 26-year-old.

A bumper figure will be agreed with the London side to bring Kalas back to Bristol. Kalas made 43 appearances for the Ashton Gate side in last season’s English Championship.

Celtic are in the market for a centre-back as the numbers are dwindling. The successful target will need to come in and be a starter as well as hitting the ground running.

He played a lot of matches at a high level and can clearly cope with the workload – he is perfect.

The fee is unknown but the Hoops are clearly in the market to spend because they need to.

David Turnbull’s reported fee was around £3 million, while the Bhoys have completed a deal for Christopher Jullien.

His fee is reportedly around the £6/7 million mark.

Celtic better off with Christopher Jullien?

Perhaps the Jullien deal progressed with the news of Kalas’ decision.

Jullien is another top experienced defender at a high level.

The similarities are close between Kalas and Jullien, but the final fee will show how near.

The big Frenchman is a towering figure though and fans will love that type of player.

Only time will tell to see who ended up with the better defender.
