Celtic are showing support and raising money for LGBTQ+ communities this weekend by taking part in the ‘LOVE UNITES’ and Rainbow Laces campaigns.

Love Unites is an endeavour organised by club kit manufacturers Adidas and has involved the creation of a special ‘Tiro x Pride Collection’ of training gear, which was released online for purchase this morning.

Celtic said of the new fashion range: “Made in collaboration with Australian artist Kris Andrew Small, known for his expressive and colourful work mostly centred on social issues and inequalities, the Tiro x Pride Collection has been created in solidarity and celebration of the LGBTQ+ communities past and present – creating a colourful and diverse graphic message across this inclusive collection with bold details of the LOVE UNITES campaign.”

Encouragingly, this isn’t just a meaningless gesture or branding on the club’s part for profit, with the announcement of a unique pre-match initiative taking place at Tynecastle tomorrow to directly help these communities in Scotland.

Celtic players will be wearing an item from the collection in tomorrow’s warm-up for Hearts, with these tops to then be signed by the team and sold online to raise money for both Celtic FC Foundation’s Christmas Appeal and registered charity LGBT Youth Scotland.

LGBT Youth Scotland works to ensure that young people’s lived experiences are understood and listened to by key decision-makers, also providing social youth group events, digital chat support from online youth workers and other resources.

As has been the custom for a number of years now, the team captain for the day will also wear a rainbow armband throughout the 90 minutes in support of Stonewall’s annual Rainbow Laces campaign. This honour is likely to be given to Cameron Carter-Vickers, with Callum McGregor still on the sidelines injured.

Celtic have informed us that there has been input on all of this from Proud Huddle CSC, Celtic’s first LGBT+ supporters’ club, so credit to them for the involvement!
