Odsonne Edouard’s departure from Celtic is what many fans will be fearing this January, but there appears to be some good news on that front.

According to the Daily Mail, Celtic supporters may not have anything to worry about. That’s because the club is apparently willing to postpone any talks of a sale of their star-man until the end of the season.

Edouard has started the season on fire with six club goals to his name. He also bagged four whilst with the France under-21 side in his first two matches for them. His stock is on the up, and that’s also been proven by the fresh speculation released today.

The Daily Mail have stated that Napoli have been scouting Edouard for two years, and that they’re ready to snap him up for a record-breaking £30million deal. However, it will be interesting to see if that offer is only open to Celtic in January as opposed to the end of the campaign.

There’s no denying that Edouard is the out-and-out Celtic number one up top. But it’s his all-round game that’s brought around this level of reported interest.

Celtic must keep hold of their key stars in January

Even at this early stage, it looks like we’ll be made to work hard for the title this year. Our rivals, Rangers, have won all four games against other sides outside of Celtic this season. They seem to have improved in that department.

That means there’s not much room for error from a Celtic perspective, at least in this early stage. The Hoops need to stay as consistent as possible, and keeping Edouard is vital to that.

It already seems at this early stage that the natural time for him to depart is this summer. Celtic will have managed to get three years out of the talented Frenchman, who has shot to fame at Celtic Park.

The Daily Mail also claimed that clubs such as Borussia Dortmund, Sampdoria, and Atalanta have all expressed an admiration for his talents. There is also bound to be some interest in France too, especially considering the success of Moussa Dembele in Lyon.

For now, Edouard and Celtic will want to blank all speculation over the player’s future. Clubs had their chance to sign him over the summer and failed to do so. At the moment, Edouard has a big job to do against Rennes on Thursday night.

Another impressive performance in Brittany will also only help his chances of big interest in the coming months.
