The great thing about this current Celtic team is that across every position, Brendan Rodgers has real quality.

Kasper Schmeichel is the rock behind a solid Celtic defence. Callum McGregor is the steel in the Hoops midfield and Nicolas Kuhn and Kyogo Furuhashi are the clinicians in Celtic’s attack.

However, it’s none of those players who are on Gordon Dalziel’s mind as the radio pundit waxes lyrical about another Celtic hero who has been ‘terrific’ this season.

Celtic hero Alistair Johnston ‘will’ be wanted by Premier League teams

On track to sign a new contract at Celtic, Alistair Johnston has been immense this season in Paradise. Now adding goals to his game, Dalziel reckons Johnston ‘will’ be a target for English clubs this season.

Dalziel told Superscoreboard, “You can look at a lot of players. You know, Kyogo, I know he’s not getting the same amount of goals, but he’s still that threat.

“The one person for me that I would not be surprised if he’s on the radar of clubs, and I know he’s just signed a new contract (not yet he hasn’t).

Alistair Johnson. Yeah, he’s been terrific. He looks like a complete player.

“He’s starting to add a few goals. And if you’re an English team, and we’re not here to sell him, because I want him to stay in Scotland.

“I just think he’s improved immensely, and he’s the kind of player that English teams, of course, will have him on their radar, but Celtic fans are not wanting to lose any of their big players or any of their big stars.”

Alistair Johnston’s Celtic stats under Brendan Rodgers vs Ange Postecoglou

With Johnston maturing and turning into one of Celtic’s most important players this season, 67 Hail Hail has decided to look at how the Canadian is faring under Brendan Rodgers compared to Ange Postecoglou.

So whilst Johnston has played almost three times as many games under Rodgers than Postecoglou, Johnston has scored five times as many goals and created six times more assists.

There is no doubt the Celtic fullback has improved and if he is indeed on clubs’ radar, they had better get a pretty hefty cheque written out for him.
