Celtic supporters tuning in to today’s game against Livingston on the club’s streaming service were surprised to hear open and frank opinions on a potential Eddie Howe appointment.

Howe has been reported as the front-runner for the job over the last two weeks but there has been silence from the club on the speculation.

Even when directly asked, personnel such as John Kennedy have remained quiet and not given anything away.

However, presenter Connie McLaughlin, former defender Alan Stubbs and Celtic icon Jackie McNamara all spoke about the subject on the club’s media outlet earlier.

It has sparked renewed online chatter about the possibility of Howe taking charge.

Surely Celtic TV wouldn’t let unfiltered Howe chat reach the airwaves if he was not close to being signed up?

That’s what some fans reckon anyway, taking to Twitter today to share their thoughts…

Are Celtic fans reading too much into Eddie Howe chat?

I think if nothing else this just shows the club are happy enough to let the Howe rumours percolate in the media. If it was a no-go topic, I do think the PR department, or even those above would have stepped in with instructions prior to broadcast.

The chat from supporters is a natural reaction to an official club outlet speaking about the reports.

However, do I think it’s a firm sign Howe is definitely coming in the door? Not really. While I remain optimistic, I do think we would have heard an update by now if agreements had been reached.

Still, it’s certainly not a bad thing his name came up on the Pass To Paradise.

In other news, Celtic are interested in signing English teenager Joey Dawson.
