Celtic have finally unveiled the new ‘limited edition jersey’ and it’s well worth the wait.
Supporters have known about the Adidas throwback kit for months. At first it was reported that the historic jersey would be the home kit for the 2023/24 season.
However, kit specialists Footy Headlines then confirmed that the shirt would be a special edition, on top of the home, away and third kits.
The design was leaked months ago but the Celtic support have now got their first official look after the club unveiled it at 8am on Friday morning. You can check out the announcement tweet here.
In an accompanying website piece, they say that the jersey will “mark 120 years of Hoops.” (Celtic)
The shirt will be released next Friday but supporters are able to pre-order it immediately. Judging by the queueing system in place on the Celtic Store website shortly after the announcement it’s already a popular one.

As for the price, an adult jersey will set you back £70. While not an inconsiderable amount, it is less than a similar Scotland jersey that was released earlier in the year. That one was priced at £90 and received a fair amount of backlash. (BBC)
There has been no indication from the club of if and when the first-team will wear the kit. You would certainly expect to see them wear it on at least one occasion.
The actual 120th anniversary (August 15) has already passed. So we’ll have to wait and see what is planned.
