Ahead of Celtic’s trip to Ibrox on Saturday, Rangers are sweating over their midfield.

The Daily Record have revealed that Scott Arfield is set to miss Rangers’ trip to St. Mirren, and is a doubt for the Glasgow Derby. The midfielder is set to have a scan for an ankle injury suffered against Hibs on St. Stephen’s Day (BBC).

Arfield hobbled off during a dodgy win for Rangers, during which a number of key decisions went against Hibs.

The Canadian international has scored 4 and assisted 5 for the Gers so far this season (Transfermarkt), and was instrumental in our rivals’ 2-0 derby win earlier in the season.

Gary McAllister illustrates doubts for Celtic match

Steven Gerrard’s number 2 Gary McAllister spoke to the Daily Record about the Gers’ injury problems.

He said:

“Scott Arfield is on his way to get a scan and we are awaiting results.

“It was disappointing to see him leave the pitch and hopeful the scan is not too bad. We are still going to have to be patient with Ryan Jack.”

The 32-year-old has been key for Rangers this season. Arfield has averaged an impressive 85% pass completion rate and kept things ticking for Gerrard’s side.

The “boyhood Rangers fan” (Herald) moved from Burnley in 2018, after scoring 32 goals in 179 Premiership appearances for the Clarets (Transfermarkt).

Ryan Jack is officially out for the vital derby clash, leaving Rangers with a headache in midfield. In defence, Leon Balogun has recovered from a head knock and could make the starting line-up.

Celtic need a positive result to keep the pressure on Gerrard’s men. With three games in hand on their south-side rivals, the Bhoys are 16 points behind in the Scottish Premiership.
