Celtic are hard at work preparing for a trio of upcoming matches in the United States, representing the final stages of their pre-season preparations.

The Scottish Premiership season kicks off in just over a fortnight. Brendan Rodgers will oversee a ramp-up in intensity and competitiveness in that time.

DC United will pose a stern test this weekend but it’s the upcoming challenge against Manchester City that presents the toughest workout on the calendar.

The fixture takes place at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, home of the North Carolina Tar Heels college American football side.

In recent days, the arena has undergone a dramatic transformation to get it ready in time for Celtic’s big kick-off against the English champions.

The entire pitch is relaid for Celtic vs Man City

Gone are the usual markings of your regular American Football match-ups, replaced with an entirely new grass pitch for this summer of ‘soccer’.

University of North Carlina staff member Casey Carrick told local station CBS 17: “Soccer players prefer to play on natural grass.

“We don’t have irrigation out here so everything we’re going to do is hand watered. A nice rainstorm or a little bit of rain will really help get everything irrigated.”

Local area prepares for Celtic visit

Pop-up shops are being opened in the area during Celtic’s visit with local authorities also ensuring special public transport arranges for the influx of supporters.

It could be a boon for the local economy with Patty Griffin of the Chapel Hill Orange County Visitors Bureau stating: “Summertime tends to be slower. The students aren’t here. This is a great opportunity for businesses to get a shot in the arm.”

Tickets remain on sale for the encounter, it’s far from a sell-out. However, there will be thousands of supporters in place to watch the champions vs champions spectacle which will hopefully be an enjoyable watch.
