The Betfred Cup quarter-final clash between Celtic and Partick Thistle won’t be shown on television.

Broadcast rights holders BT Sport made the announcement of their chosen match on Tuesday, and it was a surprising choice. The broadcasters will show live coverage of the all-Premiership clash between Livingston and Rangers – on Wednesday 25th September.

All matches take place on that evening meaning that the Glasgow derby, plus Hearts-Aberdeen and Kilmarnock-Hibernian, will be un-televised.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing though with the Parkhead crowd likely to see a boost as a result – especially with the match being a local derby.

If Celtic beat Thistle, they won’t have to play at Murrayfield

The SPFL made headlines for all the wrong reasons last year when they found themselves in a terrible predicament.

With Celtic and Rangers both due to play seperate Betfred Cup semi-finals off the back of Europa League clashes, the league governing body were in a bit of a pickle. They hatched a plan to play both matches at Hampden on the same day before eventually moving Celtic’s clash against Hearts to Murrayfield.

Thankfully lessons have been learned this year. If Celtic navigate their tie against Thistle then they won’t be forced to play at a rugby stadium. This year’s semis are scheduled for the weekend of 2nd/3rd November with no Europa League matches immediately preceding that. Phew.
