Celtic’s win over Rangers stretched their points gap over the Ibrox side to 13.
The 2-1 success will be marked as a memorable day in the run-in to the Premiership title. Despite the fact the Hoops failed to dominate for 90 minutes, they had the quality in the final third to take the points.
There were more talking points from the game than you would know what to do with. The quality of Odsonne Edouard, the sheer dominance of Scott Brown, or the various incidents of a lack of discipline from the Rangers players can be discussed.

But one that’s likely to be overshadowed is the fact that the points gap between the sides is now more than it was last season.
After 38 games last term, Celtic ended the season 12 points clear of Rangers. It goes against any idea that the gap between the two sides is closing in the grand scheme.
The gap is only likely to increase
It’ll now be interesting to see how big the gap is between both sides before the end of the season. Driving it open even more will be hugely deflating to Rangers ahead of the next campaign.
As for the game itself today, Celtic were dominant for 45 minutes. They played Rangers off the park and were just a second goal away from running away the game.

The second 45, however, was far too nervy from a Hoops perspective. Too many loose passes and defenders out of position lost us that initiative we had, and Ryan Kent took advantage.
But Celtic just continue to dig deep since the winter break. A real bit of quality for the second goal and Rangers lost the plot. The truth is that Steven Gerrard’s men looked more up for a scrap than a game of football in the final five minutes. That alone tells much about both sides’ respective mentalities.
Celtic can be proud of the massive gap they’ve now opened up, however. It’s a sign of their incredible form since the winter break, and should provide them peace of mind that they’re still miles in front of Rangers.
Can they increase it further before the end of the season? Undoubtedly.
