Celtic pair Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate were both called up by Japan boss Hajime Moriyasu for their World Cup qualifying fixtures against China and Bahrain.
Earlier today, the Samurai Blue saw off the former 7-0 to move to the summit of Third Round Group C after one game. However, it is fair to say both have experienced mixed fortunes while on international duty thus far.
Despite his inclusion, Hatate was left out of Japan’s matchday squad against China and played no part in what turned out to be a rout at Saitama Stadium.
In contrast, Maeda came off the bench just after the hour mark and got himself on the scoresheet, joining Wataru Endo, Kaoru Mitoma, Takumi Minamino (double), Junya Ito and Takefusa Kubo.

Stooping to head past Wang Dalei on 87 minutes, the much-loved Celtic winger added to his three goals and two assists inside four appearances at club level this season. Taking to Instagram, he has shared how he is feeling after netting once again for his country.
Daizen Maeda takes to Instagram after scoring for Japan
On the social media platform, Maeda thanked the Japan support for their love after notching his second goal in the space of a few days after opening the scoring against Rangers last weekend.
Accompanying his pictures from the affair, he stated (Translated via DeepL): “Thank you for your support! Please continue to support us.”
Maeda’s club for Celtic looks to have translated to the international scene. His peers widely respect his talent, and Crystal Palace new boy, Daichi Kamada, has revealed he wouldn’t like to play against the Celtic star due to his work rate in and out of possession.
Referencing his positive character, the former Lazio man also spoke of their great relationship and why that has now transcended onto the pitch while both are in action for Japan.
Hopefully, Maeda can continue on his scoring streak when Japan face Bahrain in Riffa next Tuesday in their second World Cup qualifying match.
